Nuwaraeliya
Nuwaraeliya is considered as the most beautiful area of the country. It is the foremost beautiful natural creation in Sri Lanka. Its unique salubrious climate and the atmosphere tend people to say is a typical English environment. Hence they call it as “Little England” Being the highest mountainous area with scenic beauty and cool climate, staying overnight there would be wonderful experience for any visitor. It’s like a heaven in the earth, consists with sky touching mountains surrounded by misty clouds, several water falls, lush tea estates and wonderful following plants.
VICTORIA PARK AND THE TURF CLUB


This has been created to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the coronation of the Queen Victoria of England. It is in the middle of the town and good for a stroll. Most of the flowers here are English and they add more natural beauty to the city. Horse and Pony riding is available at the turf club of Nuwaraeliya situated near the club.
PIDURUTHALAGALA MOUNTAIN


This is the highest mountain peak in Sri Lanka. And it is 2534m high from mean sea level. The trek to the mountain is through a forest reserve and it consists with several mini waterfalls. The scenic view from the mountain peak will be an unforgettable memory.
GREGORY’S LAKE

The lake located one kilometer from town adds more beauty to the town. Sir William Gregory, the British Governor at that time ordered to build this lake by creating a barrage across Thalagala Oya (water stream) which falls down from Piduruthalagala Mountain. The banks around the lake had now been arranged as a fantastic leisure park including a boat yard which allows visitors to go on boat rowing.

SHANTHIPURA VILLAGE

This is considered to be the highest village in Sri Lanka, situated 7342 feet above the mean sea level. It is 4km away from Nuwaraeliya Town. Superb view point is now created there for you to have a wonderful panoramic view.
HAKGALA BOTANICAL GARDENS

Situated 10km away from Town and over 5500 feet above mean sea level. This place was initially a herbal garden of King Rawana as per the legends. Later this was developed of a botanical garden and Cinchona was grown there to extract a medicine for Malaria. The extent of this beautiful garden is over 26 hectares. Visitors can stroll through an array of exotic gardens such of rose gardens fern gardens and an array of exotic trees, plants and flowers.
HORTAN PLAINS NATIONAL PARK

Horton Plains is well recognized for its rich biodiversity, its flora given to a high level of endemism, hence given the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the source of most of the country’s main rivers. Most of the visitors walk up to the Worlds End to get a magnificent breathtaking view of the plains below .The weather here is unpredictable and changes very often without any warning. Another popular site worth a visit is Bakers Falls. The specialty in this park is that the visitors are allowed to walk inside the park. This is a favorite place for trekkers as there are plenty of soft & hard trails, but you must be well prepared to visit there.
GALWAYS LAND NATIONAL PARK


It is a small National Park situated very closer to Nuwaraeliya city limits. It was a wild life sanctuary from 1938 and declared as a National Park in 2006. Visiting this park is recommended for bird watchers and nature lovers to walk through the designated trails in the forest.
KANDE ELA FOREST PARK


This is a park of Kande Ela forest and adjoining the Kande Ela water reservoir. This park is an important education center for eco-friendly travellers. It offers the visitors learning sessions by lectures and a one hour walk through the forest to enjoy the bio diversity, wood technology, scientific forest conservation and soil protection. The information center at the site has auditorium and a children’s park at the entrance.
There are ample of boats waiting to carry you on a boat safari in Kande Ela Reservoir at a reasonable fee. Hiring a boat and spend few hours inside the reservoir would be a fantastic experience that you will never forget.
