The Gem Industry mostly centered here. Rubber is the main plantation yet. Tea plantations and factories are also located here. There is a famous road to Adam’s Peak from Kuruwita, which is about 8 kms.
This cave is a pre- historic site. It was a forest hermitage in the past. Archeological excavations here revealed a human habilitation 13500 years ago. Human skeletons and various implements were found there. There is a large cave and a cluster of several smaller caves. This is fantastic site with salubrious climate. It attracts large number of visitors.
BATATHOTALENA (DIVA GUHAWA)
This historic cave temple is also known as Diva Ghana, which associated with Buddha’s visit. This is believed to be established by king Walagambahu in 1st century AD. There is a reclining Buddha statue inside the cave. This is also standing Buddha statue, Makara Thorana (Archway) and frescoes. There is a temple down this site and the place is well maintained by the resident monks. You have to walk through a tea estate to reach here. The view of the several mountain ranges from here is an unforgettable experience. The water seeping from the roof of cave has created a beautiful pond inside the cave. A small stupa is also located inside the cave.
The length of the cave is 150feet, width is 67 feet and the height is 50feet, is a wonderful creation of the nature.
BOPATH ELLA (WATER FALL)
The water fall is 30 meters height and shaped like a Boo –Tree leaf. Many foreigners visit here for having a river bath and there are ample of resorts in close proximity. There are several rock bolder surfaces on which you can have a nice Sunbath. The natural pool direct under the water fall is very deep; hence have to be very careful.
DELGAMU RAJA MAHA VIHARAYA
This temple is known as a place where sacred Tooth Relic was hidden and protected during the reign of king Mayadunne during the Kotte kingdom. It was kept hidden inside a Kurrakkan (Maize) grinding stone, which is a display at this temple.
